Team effort earns Cougars first round bye in 8-man District playoffs

 


Injuries created just a bit of doubt as the Lyle-Wishram Cougars looked to lock up a bye for the playoffs in a road game against Mary M. Knight on Saturday. The Owls were pumped up with their Senior night before a big crowd and they fought the Cougars hard for three quarters before succumbing to a 56-32 loss.

The win allows the Cougars time to lick their wounds. They earned the second seed in the district playoffs, which gives them a home game on Nov. 14, against the winner of the Rainier Beach versus Lummi game.

Coach Antoine Montoya said he had to do a lot of “mixing and matching” to deal with “at least 10 major contributors” getting hurt during the game. It was another big game...
