Rising goes under 18 minutes in 5k for first trip to State XC meet

A MILE FROM HOME: Dillon Rising makes the turn at the 10th green at Sun Willows near the 2.5 mile mark. White Salmon's Cabot Roe is at Rising's outside shoulder.

Dillon Rising competed for Goldendale in the State 1A cross country meet in his first year of eligibility, running the 5k course in a time of 17:58.81. He finished 79th overall and was seventh among the 18 freshmen runners who qualified for the race. There were 142 runners in the race, 80 of whom ran a sub-18 minute race.

Rising had a good idea of what he wanted to do in the race and he knew where he stood, predicting he would finish in the 70s. He wasn't so interested in the advice about starting slowly.
