SO THAT'S WHAT HAPPENED: It was a different kind of polar express that pushed Arctic temperatures across the region.

A hurricane in the Arctic made the rest of the country pay.

It was actually called a typhoon, Nuri by specific name. It pushed into the Aleutian islands early last week, with remnants hitting mainland Alaska, and it buckled the Jet Stream into a loop that brought record low temperatures across the nation and froze Klickitat County.

Denver set a record of minus 14 on Thursday. Casper, Wyo., hit an all-time low of minus 27 on Wednesday. Wichita, Oklahoma City, and Dallas all saw huge drops in their normal temperatures.
