The Goldendale Sentinel - Headlines & History since 1879

From the best seat in the house

Area basketball teams had a chance to scrimmage against someone other than their teammates with the jamborees this week. Coaches have told me in the past that the most important thing about jamborees is getting to play some new faces for a change.

You can’t draw a lot of conclusions from these mini-games, but there were some things that looked likely from Goldendale at the Bruin Jamboree.

We got to see much of what the girls will bring to the floor, I suspect. That front line of Kirsten Twohy, Cheyenne Smith and Ocean Bryan has decent size that will give opponents a challenge. They played a lot of zone defense with quick guards harassing outside.

I don’t believe we saw the offense that the boys will use. Dillon Shattuck was a force out there and you can bet opponents will focus their defense on him. Edgar Vega did some nice work inside and the young guards showed they can shoot.

Must see game or match of the week:

Lyle-Wishram plays Stevenson on Friday in Lyle. JV girls start at 3 p.m. and varsity girls start at 6 p.m. It is an interesting match-up of 1A and 1B teams.
