Dancing for a cause

FROZEN: The Goldendale Dance Team and participants from the Touch of Class Dance Studio, dance camp, performed at half time during the Goldendale girls' basketball game against Ki-Be. The group of girls and boys ranging in age from 2 to 21, performed three numbers from the movie Frozen.

Imagine being on a competitive team that practices and performs for exhibition only. The only judging of your talent is within yourself because there are no judges or officials to give you feedback, no State competition for which to qualify.

That is the situation with Goldendale's High School dance team. The team is considered a sport at GHS, but it hasn't had a travel fund since 2012. Without funds, it is hard to compete when all of your events are 200-300 mile round trips.

Dance was reintroduced at Goldendale by dance coach Gina McCabe in 2007. It was considered an activity at that time. In 2009 it was given sports status, which made funds available for travel and other expenses, like a...
