Beware the phony IRS, State tax collectors

 


A Goldendale woman reports an old scam making a fresh appearance in Klickitat County.

“A man called this morning and said he was with the IRS,” the woman said Tuesday. “He wanted me to arrange payments on back taxes.”

Two problems: 1) the IRS doesn’t make such phone calls; and 2) the woman didn’t owe any back taxes.

And if you get an email purporting to be from the IRS, be aware that the IRS doesn’t dun through such messages.

Well, surely Washington State does, doesn’t it?

Wrong. Scammers are also hitting the area targeting Washington citizens and businesses with fraudulent emails asking them to pay off tax liens owed to the state.
