Residents alerted to burglaries in Canyon Road, Appleton area


A Klickitat County Sheriff’s Department patrol car was involved in a wreck during a pursuit on Canyon Road, near Appleton. The accident happened on Saturday morning while the deputy was patrolling, on the look for suspicious vehicles that might be related to a number of recent burglaries in the area. The deputy spotted a white, three-quarter ton Chevrolet pick-up with a tail-light out. When the deputy turned around to follow, the driver of the pick-up passed a vehicle in a no-passing zone and took off when the deputy turned on his lights. The pursuit lasted less than a mile before the deputy skidded on gravel and the car left the road rear end first, hitting a tree. The deputy was not injured.

Residents in the Canyon Road, Timber Valley, Appleton area are advised to be alert to strangers and unknown vehicles in the area. It is believed the person approaches houses and breaks in if nobody is home. If someone answers the door, the person claims to be looking for someone else. Contact the Sheriff’s department if you see something unusual.
