Robert Lee Andrews

Robert Lee Andrews

What to do.....2370 gallons of water per minute.....flowing from an artesian well.....74 degree temperature. It's a blessing but it does create problems, too, for Robert Andrews.

Should he put in more pasture? He's been irrigating 80 acres from this well for the past 12 years, at a rate of about 500 gallons per minute.

Should he put the water on more wheat acres? He's been pre-irrigating some of his wheat land.

Or should he go to row crops-potatoes, sugar beets, wheat or such-which could bring in more dollars per acre? But this will mean new machinery and new farming techniques.

These are some of the possibilities Andrews will be pondering as work to cap the well progresses.

Certainly it is more pleasant thinking, than how to get more water, as is so often the case.....One thing for sure, life will never be the same on the Robert Andrews Horse Heaven Ranch......(As written by Helen Willard).

Today the Andrews family has developed a total of 12 wells producing approximately 20,000 gallons a minute that Pioneer Robert Andrews had the foresight to seek more than 50 years ago.

Today the Andrews family produces more than 3500 acres of wine grapes along with many other irrigated crops made possible from the water of these wells. The Andrews ranch is located on McKinley Springs Road, about 25 miles from Prosser and just over the Klickitat County Line.

A Celebration of Life for Robert Andrews will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at 1:30 p.m. at the Andrews Farm at 148 McKinley Springs Road, Prosser, Washington.

The Andrews Family and Washington FFA Foundation are excited to announce the creation of the Robert Andrews Memorial Scholarship Fund.
