Cougars and Pirates heading for a Gorge League showdown

STRATEGY: Bickleton's Troy Roberts and Trout Lake's James Baker jockeyed for position at the end of their first lap in the 800 meters. Backer moved to the front and held on to win with Roberts settling for third.

Lyle-Wishram boys and White Salmon girls took the team titles at the annual Jeff Agar Memorial track and field meet in Glenwood, Friday. The Cougar boys scored 127 points to edge Bickleton for the win. The Lady Pirates were also runners-up among the girls, just two points behind the winning team from White Salmon. The Lady Pirates were well ahead of league rival Trout Lake and the Lady Cougars were far behind. But, most of the Lady Cougars were absent from the meet due to prom preparations. The battle for league team honors will be settled May 15, in Bickleton.

Ellie Smith, of Lyle-Wishram had the most productive day at Glenwood, winning three events and setting new Personal Records (PR)...
