Rivers still running, flow near record low

RUSH: A kayaker gets a cool thrill riding over Husum Falls last week. Low flows haven't dampened recreation on the White Salmon or Klicktiat Rivers.

If you go check out the White River at Husum Falls or the Klickitat River through at Fisher Hill bridge, you may be surprised if you were expecting to see a little water trickling through the rocks. It is hard to notice that the flow rate is lower than normal, unless you are a long-time observer of the river and pick up on some of the clues, like bank exposure or rocks you don't normally see until later in the year.

Things have stabilized on the Klickitat and White Salmon Rivers. Since the first of July, the Klickitat River has been running between 800 and 900 cfs, rising to 924 cfs on July 5. It was running at 851 cfs at mid-day on July 8. The lowest recorded flow for the date at the gau...
