McCabe says legislators on alert to return for special session as Supreme Court fines State

 


Thursday, Aug. 13:

Rep. Gina McCabe thought the State legislative session was over and done for this year—until emails starting poring in to her this afternoon.

"We're being told to be on alert," she says. Legislators will almost certainly have to return to Olympia very soon.

That's in the wake of the Washington Supreme Court ruling today to impose sanctions on the state in the form of a fine of $100,000 a day, starting today, for its failure to make adequate progress in funding basic education.

"This is a first for Washington," McCabe says. It may be a first for the nation, according to one legal expert.
