Defense a priority for new coach at Bickleton

Bickleton begins its first season since 2009 without Lindsay Brown on its volleyball team. But, while they may lack that tall middle hitter from their line-up, they have picked up two good players and retain a core of experience.

This is also the first year under coach Sharmi Pond and her assistant Garrett Johnson. Pond has experience on her team with Kira Harvey, Heather Goodnight, Hali O'Banion and Ashley Magana. They will be key to the Pirate defense, which Pond says is a goal for this year's team.

Replacing Brown in the Pirate attack is Hannah Pond. The coach's daughter arrived at Bickleton last year, too late for volleyball. She will provide some punch up front along with Harvey and...
