There are a lot of fish heading up the Columbia River right now and the fleet has been out at the mouth of the Klickitat River.

During the past week, an average of more than 35,000 chinook salmon and more than 2,500 steelhead were counted heading up river passing the Bonneville Dam, every day. To put that in perspective, it would be as if the entire population of Klickitat and Skamania counties, plus the town of Prosser took a swim between North Bonneville and The Dalles, one summer day.

And it has been that way every day since Sept. 7. Last year on Sept. 8 there were 70,000, as if the towns of The Dalles and Hood River joined in the swim. About two fish every three-seconds. That’s a l...
