Local group receives USDA award

Klickitat County's WIC (Women, Infants and Children nutrition) Peer Counseling Program was honored this past month by the USDA. It is one of only three recipients from Washington State to receive the USDA's Gold Loving Support Award of Excellence for exemplary breastfeeding support and practices.

The WIC Breastfeeding peer counselor program began in 2011 as a way to reach more families needing breastfeeding education and assistance. Currently, the program employs two bilingual and bicultural peer counselors.
