Cougars alone in first place with win in Sunnyside

 


Serving was a key component in the Lyle-Wishram Cougars 3-2 win over Sunnyside Christian last week. Coach Lori Smith said, “We were able to keep them off balance.”

The Lady Cougars do some of their hardest hitting from the serve line. It helped keep the Knights from getting the ball to their towering front line. When they did get their shots, Smith says freshman Amber Tompkins really helped out with blocks and causing the Knights to adjust their shots. Tompkins is the tallest player for the Cougars, listed at 5-10. Three of the Knights range from 5-10 to 6-1. The tallest of that trio, Kirstin Broersma was credited with 24 kills.
