First-graders learn about firefighting at GFD

Goldendale first graders outside the Goldendale fire department.

The first graders at Goldendale Primary School walked to the Goldendale Fire Department on Friday. October is Fire Prevention month and the students have been learning about ways to prevent fire and about what to do if they are ever in a fire. Fire Chief Noah Halm, his wife Sasha, and the crew gave the students a tour of the fire station, including hands-on activities. Students were able to experience pretend smoke in a container, use a real fire hose to knock down pretend flames, sit in a fire truck, practice Stop-Drop-Roll, and were also given lessons on wildfires, fire hazards, and different equipment used to fight fires.
