Salmon run was high in spite of challenging river conditions

 

Numbers of steelhead were down this year according to numbers provided by the US Army Corps of Engineers and the Fish Passage Center. Last year, of course was a banner year for salmon and steelhead and considering the adverse river conditions this year, the number of fish was still encouraging.

Near record low flow in the Klickitat River was typical of problems created by lack of winter snow pack in the Cascades and many streams, including the Columbia River had water temperatures high enough to kill fish or induce stress that made them susceptible to parasites and disease.
