Goldendale police officers were sworn in during Monday's cross-commissioning ceremonies. Sheriff Bob Songer administered the oath, which gives Goldendale Police authority to operate without specific invitation outside the city limits. Although the two agencies have a mutual aid agreement, cross-commissioning eliminates the need for prior notification and accompaniment by Sheriff's deputies when pursing case work outside city limits. The officers are still required to notify the Sheriff's Office and are under the Sheriff's jurisdiction and liability when acting outside the city limits. Prior to cross-commissioning, Goldendale Police officers could not even stop speeders if they encountered...
