Quinton explodes for javelin win at Eisenhower

STRONG START: The track and field season officially got underway at Saturday's Eisenhower Jamboree, in Yakima. Elijah McCullough, above of Lyle-Wishram, threw the javelin 134-feet, 2-inches to place third. Gorge League girls owned the event, taking the top four spots with Juli Quinton, or Klickitat winning at 109-7.

Just one meet into the 2016 season and the competition in girls' javelin is already drawing interest. Lyle-Wishram girls have had a strangle hold on the event for the past two years, winning 12 of 26 meets along with 19 second place finishes. They have had the runner-up at State with MaeLynn Luke in 2014 and Alex Cloud in 2015.

A new face popped up at the top of the event, Saturday in Yakima. Juli Quinton, a senior from Klickitat made a statement with her win at the Eisenhower Jamboree, throwing the javelin 109-feet, 7-inches. Not only was it Quinton's first win in the event, it was also the first time she threw more than 100-feet, a milestone for girls in the javelin.
