Middle school students shine at science fair

SOCIAL SYSTEMS PROJECT: Elizabeth Garcia and Caroline Knopes pose with their discussion board on the topic of perceptions about GMOs. The entry was selected for National competition.

Seventh grade FFA members Jesse Spillman, Caroline Knopes, Elizabeth Garcia and Jake Randall competed in the State Agriscience Fair and Spring Fair in Puyallup, Saturday.

Randall's demonstration and display was best in lot, best in class and best in division for agricultural mechanics in the Spring Fair. His demonstration, called "Maytag Hit and Miss Engine," was awarded three rosettes.

Spillman's Plant Systems Project titled "Darkness vs Light on Plant Growth" was third in its lot for Agriscience.

Knopes and Garcia's team presentation in the Social Systems area called "Consumer Perceptions of GMOs," was selected for entry in the National competition. Their entry will be judged against 5...
