From the best seat in the house

We are a little more than a week away from State events, and while none of the baseball or softball teams from around here made it past districts, we are certain to have a dozen or more track and field stars at State and the boys’’ golf team had an exceptional year, sending four players to State. If they can get to day two, they can figure into team scoring.

Team sports are fun to play and they can draw out the best of each individual player, but I am a little partial to the individual sports where there is only one person who will determine how well you do. You can lean on teammates for encouragement, but your results are your own and at State, it can be a big stage, particularly at the State track and field meet. If you fall on the hurdles or crash in the pole vault, a packed grand stand is right there to see it.

Not such a crowd at golf, but the pressure is huge and mostly mental.

Good luck kids. We like your courage, win or lose.
