Fish run on the rise

 


The numbers of chinook and steelhead are rapidly increasing from Bonneville Dam to John Day Dam. Typically steelhead number rise in late July and hold strong through August, with several thousand per day over the dam.

By the end of August the big run starts, peaking on Sept. 8. An even larger run of chinook tends to peak around Sept. 9. Last year 23,516 chinook passed The Dalles Dam on Sept. 13.
