Douglas L. (Doug) Yarnell

Douglas L. (Doug) Yarnell

Douglas L. (Doug) Yarnell, 63 years old, passed away at home in the early morning of August 14, 2016 surrounded by his loving family after a long battle with pancreatic cancer.

Doug was born May 25, 1953 to George "Pete" Yarnell and Marjorie Yarnell of White Salmon, Wash. He was a real cowboy, working on the family ranch growing up, training horses, rounding up cattle, and participating in local rodeos as the season rolled around. Many of his stories came from working on the homestead above Catherine Creek with his grandparents. Doug worked many years in the lumber industry, running heavy equipment and driving truck which led to a few years of long haul truck driving, exploring the country mile by mile, even letting his children explore with him during summer breaks. He and his wife SunDee, owned a trucking business which stayed strong throughout their marriage of 25 years. He ended his career to stay close to home with family and friends, driving log truck before his recent retirement.

Doug was an incredible man who had his heart set on providing for his wife, six children, and farm home. He didn't miss an opportunity to make time for vacations and go to the occasional car show nearby, as well as spectate rodeos or go trail riding just across from his home. He surrounded himself with horses while he was home, teaching his children the tricks of the trade and continuing to educate them about life. Doug was a strong, secretly sensitive man who would help anyone at the drop of a hat. It was no wonder that he was loved by so many.

Doug is survived by his wife, SunDee Yarnell (Trout Lake); son, Mathew Richards (Richland); daughter, Kellie Yarnell (Gresham); son, Mark Miller and his wife Jenna (Carson); daughter, Katie Yarnell (Washougal); daughter, Krissy Yarnell (Ellensburg); son, J.D. Yarnell (Trout Lake); three sisters, Audrey Crader (Dallesport); Sue Mortensen and her husband Alex (Dallesport), and Pam Yarnell (Dallesport), as well as his grandchildren, Emily and Riley Miller, Mattison Richards, and Jakobe Mewborn.

He was preceded in death by his father, George "Pete" Yarnell; mother, Marjorie Yarnell; brother in-law, Eric Johnson and niece, Jennifer Duhrkop.

We'll sure miss the stubborn and caring man that he showed everyone he could be. Services will be held at Grace Baptist Church in White Salmon, Wash. on Saturday, Aug.27, 2016 at 1 p.m. Flowers are welcome; contributions to offset funeral costs and final medical expenses for Doug's family may be sent to The Yarnell Family, c/o Trout Lake Grocery, PO Box 132, Trout Lake, Wash. 98650.
