Annual run gains an attraction

You may have heard that the annual Trunk or Treat event will be a little bit different this year; Sole to Soul’s annual Harvest Run is undergoing some changes as well.

This year, the run will include a scavenger hunt and has been dubbed the Trick or Treat 5k and Scavenger Hunt. Registration will begin at 5 p.m. on Halloween night and the ‘race’ will start at 5:30 p.m. to coincide with Trunk or Treat activities.

Participants will run or walk in teams of four and will be required to drop off a carved pumpkin for judging Halloween morning; the teams will also then have to carry around their pumpkin throughout the duration of the hunt. There will be seven clues that the teams must collect from costumed volunteers stationed throughout the city limits and they must finish together.

The event will start with a group Zumba lesson—open to all—to warm participants up before they take off and then conclude with the gifting of awards for best pumpkin, best costumes, door prize winners, and finishers.

This year’s event will also be the finish run for their Couch to 5k for their running clinic.

Kristi Siebert and KathyJo Randall, co-owners of Sole to Soul, have been involved in hosting an annual fall run for about 7 years now. This year will be the first year they have expanded it into such an all-inclusive event.

“The reason we came up with the actual scavenger hunt is to make it more community and family friendly, because it’s not necessarily a race; you can run it; you can walk it…it’s not a timed event,” Siebert said. “It’s teams, it’s families, and it’s to include businesses, so we wanted the community involvement as well. It’s more community friendly to go along with the Trunk or Treat.”
