Better safe than sorry

At around 3 p.m. on Feb. 13, Goldendale police received a report of a male carrying a rifle in the 400 block of East Burgen Street, which is near the Goldendale schools. Police located the individual and determined no laws were broken: he was reportedly carrying his rifle home after it was released from the evidence room at the county courthouse.

Goldendale Police Chief Reggie Bartkowski said the report was a false alarm, but given the circumstances, he’s glad the call was made. “Anytime we get a call like that, we take it extremely seriously.” Schools were put on lockdown for approximately 20 minutes.
