Gerchak leads Wolves in Wenatchee

Senior Andrew Gerchak shot a team best 79 on Saturday at the Joe Lenberg Classic at the Apple Ridge Golf Course in Wenatchee to lead the Goldendale boys golfers to a 14th place showing among the 22 teams in attendance.

Going up against many larger schools as well as South Central Athletic Conference West rivals La Salle, Cle Elum, Zillah, Highland and Naches, the four Timberwolves finished around the middle of the pack among their league rivals after shooting a combined 409.

Cle Elum finished third overall and first among Class 1A schools with 341 total strokes, La Salle sixth with 346 strokes and Zillah placed eighth after compiling 348. Goldendale topped Naches, Highland and SCAC East rival Royal, which didn’t have enough golfers on Saturday to compile a team score.

Gerchak was one of 16 golfers on Saturday to finish below 80 strokes and finished fifth among SCAC West golfers. Cle Elum’s Nick Baker (75), La Salle’s Jordan Martin (75), Zillah’s Caleb Belton (77) and Cle Elum’s Chase Marquett (78) topped the leaderboard for division golfers.

After Andrew Gerchak, his brother, Luke, was the second highest Timberwolf on Saturday after shooting a 92 which placed him 45th overall in the field of 88. Jace Enwards followed closely with a round of 99 for 56th place and Glenwood’s Andrew McFall closed out the round with a 139.

The Timberwolves get a break from the course over spring break, and return Monday for a 10 a.m. meet in Hood River. Two days later on April 12, the Timberwolves host their only home meet this season. Naches and Warden make to the trip to Goldendale for a 1 p.m. start.
