I, Josephine Jewell Koonce West, was born July 22, 1926 in Ola, Gem County, Idaho. I was born many years after my siblings and was a great surprise to George Robert and Ethel (Stephens) Koonce. After a period of time we moved to St. Ignatius, Montana and from there mother and I moved to Magalia, California, where we lived with my sister Susanne and family for a period of time. Moving to Klickitat County during the depression, I later graduated from Goldendale Class of 1945. I was married to William Lester West, October 7, 1949 and we lived our lives together raising our family in Centerville, Washington. Bill was Goldendale Chief of Police, as well as owner of the West Ranch.
My time was spent with my boys and being their Cub Scouts and 4-H Leader, and events at the Fair. I was a member of the Historical Society working on the start of the Presby House Museum back in 1958. I loved gardening and entering flower shows. A search of Sentinel archives will show all the awards I proudly won. I hope the fields of the hereafter are covered with flowers. I love genealogy, and worked very hard through the years to find my ancestors as well as helping others do the same. My thanks to those who assisted me.
I love all animals, but cats above all. Anyone visiting would know I was a cat person, as they ruled the house. I hope I am allowed to see all of them again. I am a lover of antiques, and I started collecting and have, to this day, never looked back. Garage sales and estate sales were a great adventure for me, as well as visiting with the people having the sale.
I was preceded in death by my parents George and Ethel and a beloved step father Harry Emerson. Husband William West, an infant son, Stephen. Sisters, Laura, Ida Beatrice (Known as Susanne) Georgia May and Brothers Guy Roberts and John Jackson, Great Grandson Dalton Elliot.
My Children are: Peter Thompson (Mae), Jonathon West (Linda), David West (Jill), and T. Michael West.
Grandchildren: Taeven Thompson; James West (Toni); Michael West (Heather); Sarah West, Mary West; Matthew West; Rebecca (Pete) Naillon; Shayla West; Rachel Arens, Tom, Jacob, and Yzabel McKee; William and Remington Taylor West.
Great Grand Children: Abbigail & Annabelle West, William K. Elliot, Athena Little, Porter & Riley West, Zoey & Payton Naillon, Dayne and Austin West. Kara, Elle and Aubrey DeWitt, Arbor, Josiah, Sunan Louise, among others I all care for dearly, even if I missed giving their names here.
I love going to church and teaching various classes, which prepared me for the many adventures in my 90+ years of life. I have had a great life filled with family, friends and good times. I really loved the adventures with Venice. I had a few hurdles to overcome along the way, but through prayer and the Lord, I overcame those problems....and even now...as it is time for me to leave, I hear the summons ..... and happily I go, as I did April 11, 2017 in Scottsdale Arizona. My son Timothy Michael tried his best to make me feel at home in AZ, but Klickitat County was always my real home. I am very grateful for everything he did for me.
Always remember that, "I love you all", and I will see you again down the road. ..."Bye Now" and to those who know me, and for James...."Toddles".
Services will be held April 22, 2017 at 10 am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day saints church, at the corner of N. Columbus and McKinley. Interment at Spring Creek Cemetery, surrounded by family already waiting for me. In lieu of flowers please send donations to Purrfect Fit Cat Adoptions in Hood River Oregon, or the Humane Society.
