Museum changes opening date

The Twin Bridges Museum has changed their opening date to coincide with the resurrection of the old Lyle Pioneer Days; the schedule is for Saturday, May 27, from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. at the Lyle Park. The museum is joining the celebration to bring you a great day of recalling the past and/or a glimpse into our pioneer family’s lives and is in search of photos of local military family members to honor our own.

The photos will be scanned and returned to you. Along with the photo, please include the name, date, branch of service, and a brief military background of the service personnel for the display. The Pioneer Days celebration will link old with the new—from the traditional parade to a modern bounce house, it looks to be a great day to invite out-of-town family and friends and bundle them all up in the family jalopy.

If you wish to participate in either the museum efforts of preserving the past, or celebrating a day of the bygone days, your chance is to attend their regular meetings. The museum meets in the museum basement every second Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. The Pioneer Day Committee meets each Monday night at the Activity Center at 6 p.m.

There are so many reasons to support our local Lions Club. On Saturday, May 6, the Lyle Lions will sponsor "White Cane Awareness Day" along with its monthly pancake breakfast from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Lions Community Center. The Lyle Lions will join other Lions Clubs across Washington and Idaho in raising funds for the Northwest Lions Foundation. A special donation jar will be available to collect the separate donation. The funds collected will help support sight programs--provide free health screenings for vision loss, glaucoma, diabetes, high blood pressure for children and adults; provide grants to patients who cannot afford sight loss treatment such as cataract surgery, magnifying equipment, prosthetic eyes; provide grants to non-profits that provide computers, and software for Braille instruction. This great First Saturday Breakfast is a good way to enjoy a delicious breakfast while supporting the less privileged.

Remember, Lyle School holds a registration event for incoming pre-kindergarten and kindergarten students on May 4. This is for parents and students registering for the 2017-18 school year. Graduation is June 3 (Saturday) at 2 p.m. Also, the school year is extended through June 19 to make up most of the snow days they had this year. (The state has given them a waiver for a few of those days).Questions? Deb Stenberg, (509) 365-2191.

A big thank you goes to the Brashers family who have once again taken pride in our little community. Norma and children have cleaned up the little triangle at the corner of Fifth and SR14. It looks so much better with a little TLC. I’m sure both residents and those traveling through Lyle appreciate seeing the tiny garden. And along that subject; there has been a “clean up” at the south end of the Activity Center, which gets a nod of appreciation.
