Windsurf competition coming to Arlington

Inaugural A-Town Throwdown Windsurf, Kite and Stand Up Paddle Competitions are coming to Arlington, Oregon, on June 17 at Earl Snell Park Beach and Port of Arlington Island Park starting at 9 a.m. The event is supported by the Port of Arlington. The community event will showcase the newly reconstructed launch area at the Marina.

A-Town Throwdown will challenge the best that windsurfing, kiteboarding and standup paddling (SUP) have to offer. It’s an opportunity to showcase talents among top competitors in freestyle and downwind competitions and catch some stellar air and waves up the Columbia River Gorge. Competition will include a Freestyle Windsurfing contest, Strapless Freestyle Kiteboarding contest, a 9-mile SUP race from Blalock to Arlington.

The event will also feature industry vendors and equipment demos for the general public to try out. Pat’s Pheasant Grill will be serving up delicious food, Happy Canyon Pizza’s beer garden will feature regional Gorge brews, and there will be live music by the Sceptre Brothers to complete the festivities.

Early-bird registration discount ($25) for competitors ends May 31 and can be done by visiting, but the event is free of charge to the public, including the live concert.

The Port of Arlington has been on a path of continually improving marina and RV park facilities over the past five years.
