UNDER HIS UMBRELLA: Goldendale's Andrew Gerchak awaits his turn during Goldendale's home meet on April 12. Conditions onTuesday in Toppenish made it tough for all the competitors.

Andrew and Luke Gerchak and Emily Hurst withstood the poor weather during Tuesday's SCAC District meet in Toppenish to advance to next week's state meet.

Head coach Ted Wilkins described the weather Tuesday morning and said golfers were hit with winds up to 25 mph as well as a moderate rain.

However, Andrew kept his composure with a 77 for second place, Luke shot an 87 for eighth place and Hurst totaled 100 strokes for fifth on the girls side.

Aurora McLaughlin and Jess Beierle also had a chance to earn an alternate spot, but fell in a one-hole playoff.

The state meet runs next Tuesday and Wednesday, with the girls in Richland and boys in Pasco.

K E E P I N G F O C U S E D : Goldendale senior Jess Beierle lines up a putt on April 12 at the Goldendale Golf Club. Beierle just made the cut last Tuesday with a 96 to reach Tuesday's district meet in Toppenish.

At the sub-district meet last week, all four of Goldendale's boys and both the Timberwolf girls shot well enough to advance to Tuesday's district competition in Toppenish.

Lead shooter Andrew Gerchak, a senior, was a little behind by his standards, shooting an 86, which also tied him with his brother Luke, a sophomore. Andrew has been hanging out in the mid to high 70s throughout the season, but even on an off day at the course, is still among the best in the league.

Goldendale's other senior boys, Jace Enwards and Jess Beierle, also made the cut after a round of 95 and 96 respectively, having needed to shoot under 99 to advance to districts.

The boys shot last Tuesday in Moses Lake, while the girls were in Warden at the Sage Hills Golf Course last Thursday.

Both Hurst (103) and McLaughlin (109) had a pretty good round, according to Wilkins, and both earned berths to districts.
