FINISHING TOUCHES: A firefighter sprays embers near the KPUD building in Goldendale.

Two small brush fires sent the Goldendale Fire Department (GDF) and the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) into action last week extinguishing one fire off Bickleton Road and another behind the Klickitat PUD building.

The Bickleton Road fire burned an estimated 25 acres with the origin unknown, as fire crews prioritized extinguishing the blaze, destroying any indication of the source.

The fire near the PUD building burned 50 yards of brush on the south side of the building in a ravine that is visible from Columbus Avenue.

With fire season peaking, the GDF is still recruiting for volunteer firefighters.
