Social Security meeting raises concerns

An informational meeting on the future of social security was held Aug. 7 at the Lyle Lions club to discuss the long-term solvency challenges the program faces and gave senior citizens an opportunity to voice questions and concerns about their current benefits and how to keep social security solvent for future generations.

Klickitat County Commissioner Dave Sauter moderated the event as Shane Van Matre—District Manager of the Social Security Office in The Dalles— presented information about the current and future state of social security and what actions can be taken to keep it funded.
