Pregnancy Resource Center plans fund raising event

September 20, 2017

“Celebrate Life!” Goldendale Pregnancy Resource Center’s 2017 Walk for Life fund raising event is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 23.

This year’s event will begin at 11a.m., with registration starting at 10:30 a.m. The Walk will start (and end) at the Klickitat County Court House, 205 S. Columbus Ave., on the lawn, and will follow the “loop,” covering approximately 3 miles. A modified version of the walk will also be available for those who prefer a shorter walk. Maps will be available the day of the event.

This year, GPRC is honoring Jarrod Swearingen. The 42-year-old has lived in Goldendale since 1991. He graduated from Goldendale High School, and has personal reasons for his dedication to life. When his mother was pregnant with him, she was told it would be better if her baby were not born. Doctors said he would be born with hydrocephalus. They insisted that if he lived, his life would be one of constant medical problems;that he would spend his life in and out of hospitals;that he would be blind, and never walk or talk. But Jarrod’s mom, Cheryl, refused to even consider terminating her pregnancy.

Over the years,Jarrod has been involved in many of GPRC’s fund raisers. According to GPRC director Sue Rankin,Jarrod raises more than $2,000 for the Walk for Life each year he participates.

Proceeds from the Walk for Life, benefit the Goldendale Pregnancy Resource Center. Registration and pledge forms are available at the Center, 120 W. Allyn Street; on Facebook at Goldendale Pregnancy Resource Center, at area churches, or by emailing a request to Center hours are Monday and Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and Tuesday, from noon to 3:30 p.m.
