Washington's 2017 Big Game Hunting Seasons & Regulations

GET READY: The hunting guide book is out with illustrations like above to tell your deer types.

The Modern Firearm General Deer season starts Oct. 14 and runs through Oct. 24 for the Goldendale area in General Management Units (GMU) 382 and 388-in District 9-for hunters looking to bag a Mule Deer.

GMU 388 runs from the Klickitat River to Highway 97 and GMU 382 runs from Highway 97 to the east end of the county.

Hunting licenses can be purchased at the McCredy Company store for $45.40 for residents.

Bucks must have a three-point minimum on one side of antlers for it to be legal to hunt. A one deer per hunter bag limit is still in effect for hunters except for holders of second-deer special permits and tags.

The effects of the first ever outbreak-in Washington-of the Adenovirus Hemorrhagic Disease (AHD) did reduce deer populations in East Klickitat County marginally, but the virus was contain in GMU 382.

Washington Wildlife officials say there should be plenty of deer for hunters in the region and the effects of AHD were minimal.

Late archery season will begin on Nov. 22 for GMU 388, and late muzzleloader season will begin Nov. 20 for GMU 382.

Washington's 2017 Big Game Hunting Seasons and Regulations guide can be picked up for free at McCredy's. The booklet gives prices, rules and regulations, and dates for hunting seasons.

The comprehensive guide also gives details on what guns can be used during modern firearm season and what hunting and baiting methods are prohibited.

Mandatory hunter reporting is due by Jan. 31, 2018 for each special permit and tag purchased for the 2017 hunting season even if you did not hunt.
