Dinner is served again at Father's House

November 22, 2017

For more than 20 years Dr. James Ogden has been bringing people together on Thanksgiving Day at the Father’s House Fellowship Hall with a dinner for community members who don’t have a place to go to celebrate the big holiday feast.

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving, and Ogden says that everyone is invited who doesn’t have “a better deal.”

“We put on a traditional Thanksgiving dinner for people who don’t have anywhere else to go. If you don’t have a better deal anywhere else, then come join us,” Ogden says.

Dinner will be served at noon and will conclude around 1:30 p.m. There will be games and coloring for children to keep them entertained.

Diners will get to eat on authentic fine china dishware that Ogden says is well over 60 years old.

Food is donated from the public and the dinner is free of charge and donations are not expected by participants. Dinner will consist of turkey, mashed potatoes, Ogden’s homemade stuffing and homemade pumpkin pie. People can bring side dishes and salads if they want and there will be plenty of food for everybody.

“After the dinner we like to send people home with leftovers so they can continue to enjoy the holiday through the weekend,” Ogden says.

If you are unable to attend the dinner, ordering take out is available. If you would like to have a dinner delivered to your house, call 250-6147. You can call the day of, but calling the day before is preferred so volunteers know how many deliveries will be needed ahead of time.

Volunteers are needed with the set up and serving of the meal and clean up afterwards. If you are interested in volunteering, call Ogden’s office at 773-4114.

“We usually see well over 100 people every year come to the dinner, and everyone is always so thankful and grateful,” Ogden says. “It is neat to see so many different people from different backgrounds all come together to share a meal as one.”

Ogden will also be offering transportation to anyone who doesn’t have a ride to the dinner. If you are in need of a ride, call Ogden’s Mopar Limo Service at 773-4114 or 250-6147. Call ahead of time to make an appointment, but same day service is available.
