ANGELIC HOSTS: A quartet of angels greeted visitors at last year's journey to Bethlehem

Travel back in time with the interactive Journey to Bethlehem exhibit at the Goldendale Seventh Day Adventist Church—59 Bickleton Highway—running Dec. 1-3 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Journey to Bethlehem is a historical recreation of the city of Bethlehem in the first century and is a theatrical representation of the biblical account of the birth of Jesus Christ.

In this 45-minute guided tour visitors will interact with local actors who will be dressed in historical clothing. Participants will have a meeting with King Herod, pay taxes to Roman soldiers, and walk through a Market place recreated to look like the city of Bethlehem in the time of Christ.

“The purpose of the exhibit is to take people back in time to experience what Bethlehem might have been like,” Coordinator Lori Gray says. “The tour takes you through several different scenes that are modeled after the Christmas story found in the bible, ending with the manger scene and the birth of Christ.”

The actors will be performing from a memorized script, and Gray says they do a really good job of getting into character, adding to the experience.

“It is a fun way to get a visual of the historical context of that time,” Gray says.

After the tour guests are treated to a meal of authentic Bethlehem cuisine consisting of various soups, bread with hummus, and cookies and pastries.

Admission is free and tours begin every 15 minutes starting at 5:30 p.m. Those who call ahead for tour reservations will be given first priority. Walk-ins are welcome but may have to wait longer to start a tour. The last tour of the night will start at 7:30 p.m.

To schedule a reservation, call 773-5028.

The Journey to Bethlehem tour will also be wheelchair accessible for people with mobility challenges.

For transportation within the city limits Ogden’s Mopar Limo service will be providing rides for people who need them. Call 250-6147 to schedule a ride.
