According to preliminary data received by NOAA's National Weather Service in Pendleton Oregon, temperatures at Goldendale averaged near normal during the month of December.

The average temperature was 30.0 degrees, which was 0.1 degrees above normal. High temperatures averaged 35.3 degrees, which was 0.5 degrees below normal. The highest was 47 degrees on the 19th. Low temperatures averaged 24.6 degrees, which was 0.7 degrees above normal. The lowest was 7 degrees, on the 24th.

There were 26 days with the low temperature below 32 degrees. There were 13 days when the high temperature stayed below 32 degrees.

Precipitation totaled 1.67 inches during December, which was 1.52 inches below normal. Measurable precipitation -at least .01 inch- was received on 11 days with the heaviest, 0.48 inches reported on the 30th.

Precipitation in 2017 totaled 19.94 inches, which is 2.72 inches above normal. Since October, the water year precipitation at Goldendale has been 7.11 inches, which is 0.22 inches below normal.

Snowfall totaled 4.7 inches with at least 1 inch of snow reported on 2 days. The heaviest snowfall was 3.2 inches reported on the 23rd. The greatest depth of snow on the ground was 3 inches on the 23th.

The highest wind gust was 19 mph which occurred on the 19th.

The outlook for January from NOAA's Climate Prediction Center calls for near normal temperatures and near to below normal precipitation. Normal highs for Goldendale during January are 37.1 degrees and normal lows are 24.5 degrees. The 30 year normal precipitation is 3.06 inches.
