Elva Riley

Elva Riley, 90, passed away peacefully on Dec. 23, 2017. She was born in Black Rock, Washington, on Dec. 10, 1927, to John and Eva Bronkhorst.

She married Grover Riley Sr. on Aug. 25, 1947. They lived in an old school house in Goldendale where they raised their three children: Barbara (Mike) Goldsmith, John (Dee) Riley, & Grover Thurman (Sheila) Riley Jr. Elva drove school bus for the Goldendale School District and was also a teacher assistant. After retirement, Grover and Elva moved to Yakima in 2003 to be closer to their children and grandchildren.

Elva enjoyed many things in life. She was an avid painter, seamstress, and quilter. She liked to pass the time with word search puzzles and color books.

Elva was preceded in death by her mother, father, her husband Grover of 62 years, and son John, along with many brothers and sisters.

Elva is survived by her children, Barbara and Grover Thurman Jr., her eight grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The celebration of life will be held on Jan. 6, 2018 at the Goldendale Grange at 1 pm. Along with the memorial for Elva, we will also be holding a celebration of life for her late husband, Grover Riley Sr., and son, John Riley.
