Florence A. Barta

January 10, 2018

Florence Ann Barta passed away on Jan. 4, 2018 at home in Goldendale, Washington at the age of 90. Born in Woodland, Washington, on Jan. 13, 1927 to John and Florence Haberman, she lived most of her life in Kirkland and Redmond, Washington, moving to Goldendale in February 2017 in order to be near her daughter Ann Cochran and son David Barta. Her husband, George H. Barta, passed away in 1996. Florence Ann is survived by daughters Terese Barta and Ann Cochran, and sons David Barta and Brian Jackson.

Mom was blessed with a life that always included a lot of laughter, and nothing brought her more joy than her grandchildren, who range in age from 29 to 12 years old. She enjoyed meeting her first great-granddaughter, Mary Beth Barta (Stephen and Andrea) in July of 2017. All of her grandkids will remember her love of playing cards, and especially her competitive spirit while playing dominoes, each game of which produced a semi truck trailer full of laughter and jokes.

She was a member of Holy Family Parish in Kirkland, Washington, where she served on St. Vincent de Paul and the altar society and was ever ready to provide meals for others in their times of both celebration and memorial. From the time she moved to Kirkland, she enjoyed many happy events with her “Potluck Group,” meeting with those cherished friends every month from the late 1950s until she moved to Goldendale in the spring of 2017.

She had a sharp mind and an excellent memory right up to the time she passed away, and she had just enjoyed fellowship with family and friends watching fireworks on New Year’s Eve. Mom loved to talk about family history and could still name all of her 15 aunts and uncles as well as most of their children. She maintained correspondence with and made phone calls to her cousins in Minnesota nearly every year as well.

In addition to her children, Mom is survived by grandchildren Tim, Stephen, Hallie, Hannah, and Amy (David and Penny), Aaron and Ben (Ann and Kit), and Susan and Samantha, (Terese and Bob Gilmore). Her brother John passed away in 1991, and son in law Bob Gilmore passed away in 2014.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at Holy Family Parish in Kirkland on Thursday, Jan. 18, at 11 a.m. She will be laid to rest next to her husband George at Sunset Hills in Bellevue, Washington. Mom always thought of the poor. Memorials may be made to St. Vincent de Paul.

P.S.-Thank you to all of you at Simcoe Manor who welcomed Mom. She didn’t live here long, but she loved the fact that many of you stopped by and everyone was friendly. Thank you!
