The Goldendale Sentinel - Headlines & History since 1879

As long as you asked....

Last week you asked readers what we would like to see in the paper. Right question. One you must ask yourself continuously, and one where asking your audience for their input only makes sense.

One thing I remember from when I first came here was Goldendale had a local happening section just like Glenwood and Lyle. People like to know what’s going on with the people of Goldendale. It makes the letters to the editor and the court log the first thing we turn to. My soon-to-be wife wasn’t too happy when I was introduced to the community as an eligible bachelor that had just taken the new engineer position at the PUD. Different times, but same principle. Community is what makes Facebook so popular. I’m sure you could get a number of contributors to such a column.

Another thing I miss is knowing about the service clubs—what they are doing and who is involved. Used to be each year there was a picture and an article announcing the new officers, their goals and projects for the upcoming year. I miss Jean Smeltzer’s Looking Back section. Another idea is for a business section. I know a reporter was assigned to this in the recent past, but the number of articles and quantity of businesses highlighted leaves a lot of room for more. How about a section where people write in with their “Does anyone know where I can get ______done?” I see people post these questions on Facebook and am continually surprised how many enterprising people there are in Goldendale. There are people that have businesses or sidelines to meet most of your needs. You can’t find them in the yellow pages or on the Chamber website, but they are out there.

The Sentinel is an integral part of our community. We appreciate your stewardship for the time you have the helm. As I said before, right question. Keep asking yourself and us.

Some progress

Did you know that, contrary to science and logic and natural law, there are now at least three genders? The latest is Gender X (and Gender X covers at least 17 different “genders”). Starting Jan. 27, Washingtonians will be able to choose Gender X on their birth certificates. How bizarrely irrational and anti-science.

Where will the gender generating stop?

It may surprise you to learn that some colleges like Harvard now have officially recognized student groups devoted to promoting the acceptance of BDSM—sexually deviant bondage, discipline, sadism, and masochism. That’s right. If you are a psychologically disturbed student who gets sexual thrills from hurting people, some colleges like Harvard now have groups for you! (Are Neanderthals running that school?)

Those paying attention can see that this “logic” is rapidly leading this society down a path to a more aberrant, disordered, and irrational society. Legal polygamy is coming soon. Maybe down the line we’ll see “marriage” between incestuous adults! Whoopee! Anyone who thinks this is progress is deluding him/herself.
