Better update your driver's license

The three large evergreen trees on the southwest corner of the Klickitat County Courthouse Lawn were uprooted on Saturday, Feb. 17, due to high winds. What will be the future plans for the lawn? Will the trees be replaced, and if so, what kind of trees? Either way, do not expect any shade for the area on Community Days, for a long time. Let us hope to hear how old the trees were and how big of a wind gust we got at the time the trees fell.

For years, Washington residents have expressed confusion over whether their driver’s licenses will get them through Transportation Security Administration (TSA) checkpoints in the near future. After October, 2020, people using a standard licenses without additional documentation will not be allowed to pass TSA. Only Enhanced Driver's Licenses or Passports will be permitted to enter. Go to for all the information you will need to get an (EDL) The closest city to apply for your first EDL would be Union Gap, but you can then renew it at the Goldendale office.

For those veterans and widows of veterans, there is a Veterans Service Officer in Goldendale one day a week. You can find William Smith at the Courthouse, in the Auditor’s office, every Wednesday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Walk-ins are welcome between the hours of 11-12 p.m. and 2 to 3 p.m. Or, you can call for an appointment at 773-2467. Is there someone in your life who wears a badge? Women Supporting the Badge is inviting all women connected to law enforcement to the first spring rally. The event will be held Saturday, March 10, from 10 a.m. to noon, at The Dalles MCMC-MOB building Conference Room, 1810 E. 19th Street. Guest Speaker will be Karen von Borstel, first female sheriff of Washington State. Drinks, snacks, drawings, and a survey will be provided (donations gladly accepted). Women Supporting the Badge all need support, and this is where they can get connected. Anyone interested is encouraged to come to the kick-off.
