DOGS dinner coming

Dogs of the Gorge is having their annual fundraiser dinner this Saturday, March 10, at the Goldendale Senior Center, 115 E Main St. from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. A silent auction will also be held and donated items are still needed.

Cost for the dinner is $8 for adults, and $6 for seniors and children age six to 12. Kids five and under are free. It will be an all-you-can-eat buffet of spaghetti, salad, and a wide variety of desserts.

Proceeds from the fundraiser go towards the operating costs for Dogs of the Gorge that include the spaying and neutering program. Dogs of the Gorge volunteer Danielle Olsen says that 85 percent of the stray dogs they find are not spayed or neutered and doing that procedure is one of their main costs. Olsen says each year the spaghetti fundraiser can generate between $2,000 and $3,000.

“We operate on all donations from the community and charitable contributions from businesses,” Olsen says. “These fundraisers are vital to our success because we have no other funding source besides regular donations.”

Silent auction items are still needed, and if you wish to donate contact Olsen at 261-1422 or Lisa at (541) 978-0079.

Dogs of the Gorge is a non-profit organization in Klickitat County that finds homes for and adopts out dogs in need. It is run by volunteers who work to solve the homeless pet population in Klickitat County through fostering, spaying and neutering, and educating the public.
