Local author remembers resistance heroes

HEROES IN THE FAMILY: Local writer Ingrid Archibald's new book tells how her grandmother helped rescue Jews in occupied Amsterdam during World War II.

Local author Ingrid Archibald just achieved a lifetime goal: her book Heroes without Haloes is now published and available on Amazon. She helped translate her mother's manuscript from Dutch to English in the early '60s, which is the reason her mother, Nellie Erkelens Freerks, is named as the primary author of the book. Her mother was never able to get the book published, and it languished for several decades. After her mother passed in 1988, Ingrid decided she really needed to complete the project, but her own career as an educator got in the way.

It wasn't until she joined a local writers' group, Writers' Bloc in Goldendale, that she gained renewed energy to edit her mother's manuscript...
