Paint Party raises trip funds

April 25, 2018

Goldendale FFA students are having a Paint Party Fundraiser on April 26 to generate money to help support their trip to the 88th Washington State FFA Convention. Goldendale FFA has qualified 55 students, from seventh to 12th grade, to compete at state, and is the biggest qualifying group of kids from any FFA chapter in Washington.

The funds from the paint party will cover part of the fees and registration for the state events, and will also go towards food and lodging. Goldendale FFA was ranked in the top 10 nationally last year and FFA advisor—and Goldendale High School and Middle School teacher—Randi Krieg has high hopes again this year.

“Goldendale FFA is considered one of the best in the nation, and we are shooting for that goal again this year,” Krieg says. “We are really proud of our kids, and it is a big deal to take nine teams to state; most FFA chapters may only take two.”

Local artist Felicia Gray will be facilitating the paint party and is furnishing the canvasses, paint, and paint brushes for the event. Gray says she does paint parties as a way to bring the community together for a good cause.

“I will teach each participant how to paint and take them through step by step,” Gray says. “I try to make them feel successful and to not be afraid of painting.”

The fundraiser is expecting over 100 participants, and each person will be given the exact same photo of an outdoor shed with a wagon wheel leaning against it, to duplicate onto the canvass.

“It is a fun time, and these types of fundraisers are my way of giving back, and helping community organizations, and to get people excited about art,” Gray says.

The 88th Washington State FFA Convention will be held May 10 to May 12 at Washington State University in Pullman, WA.
