Team of Ross, Hoffman, Fields, Wilkins take Erland Memorial title

Dave Ross, Darren Hoffman, Jeff Fields, and Sam Wilkins shot a 14-under-par 58 to lead all teams during Saturday’s Lowell Erland Memorial Scholarship Golf Tournament at the Goldendale Golf Club.

Last weekend marked the 29th year of the Erland Memorial Tournament and 29 total golfers competed in the scramble that helped raise funds for high school scholarships.

The Anderson team of Matt, Jenna, Mitch, and Lucas followed in second with a 8-under-par 64 while recording an eagle on the fifth hole.

Recipients for this year’s Lowell Erland Memorial Scholarship will be revealed during the Goldendale High School graduation on June 8.

Hoffman finished closest to the hole on No. 4, Tim Furlong won on 13, and Ross on 18. Richard McCulley finished with the longest putt on No. 1.

GHS Wrestling/Bball fundraiser

In less than two weeks, a new fundraiser will come to the Goldendale Golf Club to help support a couple of Goldendale High School sports teams.

The first annual Goldendale Wrestling and Basketball Classic Golf Tournament debuts on June 2 at the golf course in town, and it is more than just golfing.

Starting at 9 a.m., teams of 4-5 players will compete in the best ball scramble format. There also will be various mini games at each hole for the golfers to try their hands at. There will be typical golfing contests such as closest to the pin and longest drive challenges, along with free throw and bank shot basketball games.

Plaques and medals will be handed out as awards, along with a team autographed basketball and wrestling headgear. Lunch also will be served after your round finishes.

Cost is $50 per person. Contact head wrestling coach Matt Dumolt at 773-0411 for more information.
