McCleary court case ends

 

The state Supreme Court last week brought to an end

the long-running McCleary school funding case. From the time the court ruled in 2012 that the state was not meeting its constitutional duty to fully fund basic education through the 2018 legislative session, the case dominated state budget debates and cost the state a fine of $100,000 a day.

In the order handed down last week, the justices reviewed legislative progress and stated, "The court concludes that the State has complied with the court's orders to fully implement its statutory program of basic education by Sept. 1, 2018, and has purged its contempt.
