Presby Pioneer Days

SO THAT'S HOW THEY DID IT: Kids hear how the pioneers lived during a visit to the Presby Museum.

The sun was out and the weather was scalding, but that didn't stop students from enjoying a blast to the past during Pioneer Days at the Presby Museum on July 25.

Students from the first through fourth grades were able to step into the shoes of the pioneers who helped establish Goldendale and Klickitat County, performing tasks almost foreign to the 21st century but which were a staple in the daily life of a pioneer in the American West.

Some of the duties the students partook in included putting clothes on racks with clothes pins, experiencing what it was like to be a student in the museum's one-room schoolhouse, and being a part of the bucket brigade that was commonly used to help extin...
