According to preliminary data received by NOAA’s National Weather Service in Pendleton Oregon, temperatures at Goldendale averaged warmer than normal during the month of December.
The average temperature was 33.7 degrees which was 3.8 degrees above normal. High Temperatures averaged 40.1 degrees, which was 4.3 degrees above normal. The highest was 53 degrees on the 22nd. Low temperatures averaged 27.2 degrees, which was 3.3 degrees above normal. The lowest was 18 degrees, on the 25th.
There were 25 days with the low temperature below 32 degrees. There were 3 days when the high temperature stayed below 32 degrees.
Precipitation totaled 1.85 inches during December, which was 1.34 inches below normal. Measurable precipitation -at least .01 inch- was received on 16 days with the heaviest, 0.30 inches reported on the 17th.
Precipitation in 2020 totaled 13.98 inches, which is 3.24 inches below normal. Since October, the water year precipitation at Goldendale has been 5.26 inches, which is 2.07 inches below normal.
Snowfall totaled 2.9 inches with at least 1 inch of snow reported on 1 day. The heaviest snowfall was 2.0 inches reported on the 26th. The greatest depth of snow on the ground was 2 inches on the 26th.
The outlook for January from NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center calls for above normal temperatures and above normal precipitation. Normal highs for Goldendale during January are 37.1 degrees and normal lows are 24.5 degrees. The 30 year normal precipitation is 3.06 inches.
