Say farewell to Charlie

For those who knew Charlie and June Allen, I just wanted to remind you of the memorial service and luncheon on Saturday, May 1, at 11 a.m. Their family invites all their friends to come and celebrate their lives and share stories and good memories. The luncheon will be catered, but the family asks rodeo friends to please bring desserts to share, remembering how that was Charlie’s favorite part of the many rodeo work-day potlucks.

We are so shocked and saddened to hear of the sudden passing of Mary Anita Leaton Addington last week. Mary Anita was the daughter of Bill and Sylvia Leaton and spent her entire life here in Glenwood. She and her husband Vern raised their children, Vernadean and Bill, on the family ranch. Mary Anita always had a friendly smile and enjoyed visits when encountering friends at stores or yard sales. She was very hard-working and very devoted to her husband, children, and grandchildren. She will be greatly missed here in our community. Our deepest condolences go to Vern, Bill, Vernadean, and Jeff Dean and their sons and grandson, and sister and brother-in-law Claudia and Carroll Hoffbauer.

The Camas Prairie and Vicinity Pioneers Association spring meeting will be held in the Glenwood School gymnasium on Sunday, May 2. The meeting will begin at 1 p.m. and will feature a presentation of the history of the Mystery Road by association president Jerry Dean. Jerry asks that anyone else who wishes to share some family history, old stories of the valley, or old photos, to please feel free to do so. Due to COVID guidelines, there will be no potluck, but coffee and cookies will be served. Anyone interested in hearing more of the history of our beautiful valley is welcome to attend. You do not need to have a connection to a pioneer family to be part of this amazing, interesting group.

With news of those we’ve lost, it’s nice to be able to share happy news of the newest member of our community. Lavender Ann Grace Yothers was welcomed into this world by her mama, Calista Yothers, on April 14. The beautiful little girl weighed 7 lbs., 3 oz., and stretched out at 20 and a half inches long. Congratulations to the new mama and to excited grandparents Nikki and Dustan Yothers.

This is another reminder that Christina Kuhnhausen is seeking rodeo parade entries now. If you would like to participate in the parade, please call Christina at (509) 364-3326. After having no rodeo and no parade last year, this one will be a great one, for sure.
