Milking time music soothes dairy herd
Contented cows are all right, in the opinion of Kirk T. Deverill, Goldendale dairyman, but if you let them listen to soft music over a radio at milking time you’ll get more milk.
Deverill, who milks 75 cows every night and morning, practices what he preaches. Since he inaugurated his cow stable radio reception two months ago, Deverill’s cows haven’t missed a milking time broadcast.
“Soft dreamy waltzes of the Wayne King type are tops with the dairy herd,” Deverill declares. “The slow dreamy waltz strains seem to take the cows’ minds off their workaday troubles and they milk easier,” the Goldendale dairyman says.
